Walk to Defeat Duchenne 25th Anniversary

The Walk to Defeat Duchenne unites families from coast to coast to raise awareness and funds for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. In 1995 John Davidson pushed his son, Jesse, across Ontario. This foundational feat launched Canada’s largest movement to fund research and support families living with Duchenne. This year, we invite you to join us as the Walk celebrates the 25th anniversary of Jesse’s Journey.

Due to COVID-19, the Walk to Defeat Duchenne has gone virtual and will now take place on World Duchenne Awareness Day, Monday, September 7, 2020 – this means you have more time to grow your team and raise vital funds!

While this is an uncertain time for everyone, the fight to defeat the most common fatal disease diagnosed in childhood, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, does not stop. We hope you will refocus your efforts online – by encouraging your supporters to donate towards your Walk and sharing your participation on social media.

When: Monday, September 7, 2020

The virtual 2020 Walk to Defeat Duchenne will take place on World Duchenne Awareness Day – Monday, September 7, 2020. We encourage participants to walk on this day in their local community, or if choosing to complete the Founders Challenge, walk on a variety of days leading up to and/or on September 7, 2020. The day will also include virtual fun such as warm-up, welcoming ceremonies, awards, and much more, so be sure to tune in before and after your walk!

Where: Anywhere you choose!

You choose where you walk – your neighbourhood, a local park, or the treadmill. Wherever you choose, please ensure you are keeping safe and abiding by the COVID-19 protocols as dictated by your province or territory (see updated information here).

Distance: Complete the Founder’s Challenge or choose your own

Complete the Founder’s Challenge leading up to or on Monday, September 7, 2020, by walking 33 km – the daily trek of John and Jesse Davidson during their 1995 walk across Ontario or, choose to walk, run or roll any distance on Monday, September 7, 2020.

Registration: Adults (18+) = $15 | Kids/Youth (under 17*) = Free (but fundraising is always encouraged!)

Did you already register for the Walk before it went virtual? Awesome – you don’t have to worry about re-registering, you’re all set to participate and help fundraise.
